Pulla-Sweet Bread Recipe

Fabio's request 2 packages (or 2 tablespoons) of dry active yeast
1 cup milk - scalded
1 stick of butter - cut
2 eggs
1 teaspoon ground cardamom (optional)
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup of sugar (or more for your taste)
4 cups flour

Melt butter in milk; cool the scalded milk until it is warm. Dissolve the yeast in it. Beat the eggs lightly. Add flour (a cup at a time), add more flour in a very small portions, if needed. Add salt, cardamom, and mix well. The dough should feel soft and elastic to your hand.

On a baking board, divide the dough into 6 equal parts, roll them into long strips, and make a braid or you can make round rolls, add cranberries, raisins, and walnuts.

Put the rolls and the braids on lightly floured baking sheets. Cover with towels, and let rise in a warm place until well doubled in size (about 1 -2 hours). Preheat the oven to 400º, bake 15-20 minutes or until brown. Take out and brush with coffee topping (optional)

1 teaspoon butter 2-3 teaspoons brown sugar 1 teaspoon coffee to melt

Good with ice cream for dessert. Serve warm for breakfast with jam. Make good toasts. Freeze well, good for French Toasts.

Bon Appetit!
